The Falkland Islands are located in the South Atlantic approximately 300 miles east of the South American coast. The Falkland Islands International airport at Mount Pleasant (MPN) is serviced by direct MoD charter flights from RAF Brize Norton, Oxfordshire, England & commercial flights from Santiago, Chile. Both services are accessible to civilians of any nationality provided current immigration requirements are met. The South American Route Visitors travelling from or via South America can connect with the LAN flight from Santiago, Chile, via Puerto Montt and Punta Arenas to the Falklands operating every Saturday. Once a month, usually on the second Saturday, on departing Punta Arenas, the flight calls at Rio Gallegos, Argentina. The return flight from Stanley via Rio Gallegos occurs one week later. RAF Brize Norton is located near Carterton, Oxfordshire, England. The nearest railway stations are at Swindon and Oxford. There is no public transport between these stations and Brize Norton, however, taxis are available and can be booked in advance; Travel information can be found here. Journey time to Mount Pleasant Airport, 35 miles to the southwest of Stanley is approximately 18 hours including a refuelling stop at Ascension Island. Flight services include four in-flight meals. In-flight video film entertainment is available on certain flights. All flights are non-smoking.   1. Immigration proceedings are much as for UK. No visa is required for citizens of the EEC, Mercosur, USA, Australia, Canada, Cyprus, New Zealand or South Africa. Citizens from other countries wishing to obtain a temporary visitor’s permit should check with their nearest British Consul before traveling.
  2. Travellers arriving in the Falklands will be required to possess a valid passport. Except in special cases such as seamen travelling to join a specific ship, no other form of identity document will be acceptable.
  3. All arriving passengers, who are not resident or legitimately taking up residence in the Falklands must possess a return air ticket or other evidence of prepaid onward travel arrangements.
  4. Evidence in the form of cash or major credit card will be required of sufficient funds to cover the expected length of stay in the Islands.
  5. All visitors must have pre-arranged accommodation in the Islands in advance of their arrival.
  6. We are proud of our extremely low incidence of drug abuse and the Falkland Islands Government is firmly committed to maintaining the drugs-free environment currently enjoyed here. Anyone entering the Falkland Islands as a visitor or as a temporary resident/worker who is convicted of a drugs-related offence will be dealt with severely by the authorities and their immigration permit will be revoked.
